Joints
|

Pedero
designed, tested, and patented the first insulated joint system
in Canada.
|
Over
ten years ago Pedero recognized a need for a better way to insulate
weld joints on insulated pipelines. Half shells were good but inefficient
due to gaps and air leaks. Time and manpower were also a factor because
half shells had to be cut to fit each weld joint.
The
need for a more efficient system was recognized and Pedero did something
about it!

The
System and its Benefits
|
Pedero's
system is an injection mold process where a specially developed polyurethane
foam is injected into a mold fitted over the weld gap on the pipe.
This polyurethane foam then expands in all directions to completely
fill the void at the weld gap. When the foam expands, it bonds to
the existing foam around the pipe on both sides of the weld leaving
a completely sealed weld joint. The injected foam has the same "R"
value and compressive strength as the existing foam on the lengths
of pipe.
|
| With
the joint completely sealed by the foam, the pipeline has effectively
added another step against corrosion. Moisture cannot get in through
the welds as it can through the cracks in half shells.
Testing
has proven heat loss on insulated pipelines with half shells occurs
at the weld joint. Pedero's patented system has been proven to show
that no heat loss occurs at the weld joint due to the complete seal
of the system. Even with minimal heat loss at the weld joint with
half shells, the excess cost to keep pipelines heated to specifications
can be very expensive. With Pedero's system no heat loss occurs,
thus saving the line owner money

 |
A
Pedero crew of two can easily foam 150 joints per day. If required
our crews are highly experienced with the application of many forms
of tape, and shrink sleeves and can apply the inner coating, and outer
coating as well as foam.
Cost
wise Pedero's patented system costs roughly the same as half shells,
but with many more benefits.

|
Companies
that have used Pedero's system include Shell, Husky, Esso, Mobil,
Petro Canada, Rigel, and many others, as well as engineering firms
such as Colt, Concise and Tuxla.
